A school is celebrating after scooping a top award for its website. Calthorpe Park in Fleet has won the ‘most accessible’ category in the Hantsweb Awards 2007.

Calthorpe Park School headteacher Cathy Anward with assistant head Warren Brand and webmaster Ben Millard after winning a Hampshire website competition.

Judges were clearly impressed, describing it as a “beautifully clear and inclusive site”.

The judges added that it was “a great example of an effective school site that other schools should emulate”.

They praised its clear and consistent navigation, with accessibility at the core of the design, as proof that sites can be attractive, effective and accessible.

Cathy Anwar, headteacher at Calthorpe Park, which enjoys specialist status in maths and computing, attended the ceremony with webmaster Ben Millard.

A delighted Mrs Anwar said:

“Warren Brand also puts a lot of time into managing the website, so it’s a real team effort.”

Now in its fifth year, the Hantsweb Awards are organised by the county council and aim to recognise website excellence in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

This year the competition attracted over 900 nominations for the 11 website categories.

These were whittled down to a shortlist of 33 finalists, three in each category, by a panel of expert judges.

Councillor Rod Baulk, Hampshire Council Council’s e-Government champion, congratulated all the Hantsweb Award winners. He said:

“They are leading the way when it comes to quality online services.

“Both the winners and runners-up should be proud of the work they have put into creating accessible, user-friendly and worthwhile websites.”

There was success for two other schools in the area. Court Moor School in Fleet and Mayhill Junior School in Odiham won runner-up prizes in the best school or college website category.
