Mrs Bascal (Student Health & Welfare) and Mrs Cutts (First Aid Administrator) are available throughout the school day to attend to any emergency requiring first aid.
The Medical room is open to students during break and lunchtime. During lessons if a child feels unwell they will need to be given permission by their class teacher to attend the Medical room.
Students must not contact parents/carers (by phone/text) if they feel unwell at school. In the first instance they should attend Medical, where Mrs Bascal/Mrs Cutts can determine whether they are well enough to return to class, or a decision made to send the student home. Failure to follow this school procedure will result in a detention (see our protocol below).
If there are any changes to your child's medical situation e.g. a course of antibiotics or need to use crutches, please inform us as soon as possible by phone on 01252 618175 (where a message can be left) or by email (Mrs Bascal or Mrs Cutts)
If your child has a case of head lice, please let us know. This link to the Lice Program is very helpful; if you have further queries speak to either a pharmacist or your GP.
Please note the following advice from Public Health England’s Guidance on infection control in schools and other childcare settings: If your child has diarrhoea or vomiting it is recommended that they are to be kept away from school for 48 hours from last episode of diarrhoea or vomiting. Handwashing is one of the most important ways of controlling the spread of infections, especially those that cause diarrhoea and vomiting, and respiratory disease. The recommended method is the use of liquid soap, warm water and paper towels. Always wash hands after using the toilet, before eating or handling food.
The NHS School Nurses are coming in to run two vaccination sessions for Year 10s to receive Final School Boosters and Meningococcal ACWY vaccinations - Wednesday 1st February and Thursday 2nd March. The team of School Nurses can see about half of the year group at each session. Appointment slips will be given out on the morning of the vaccinations via Form tutors.
Your son/ daughter should have brought home some information and a consent form. It is ESSENTIAL that consent forms are returned at the very latest by tomorrow Friday 27th January, as the nurses need to order the correct number of vaccines regardless of which appointment date they get given.
If your son/daughter is taking part in the Calshot trip then they will be able to have the vaccinations on 2nd March.
Even if you do not consent to your child having these vaccinations, or if they have already had them, or plan to have them at your GP surgery please return the form indicating this so that the School Nurses can update their records.
We have spare consent forms in the medical room at school should your child need one. If you have any queries then contact Southern Health School Nurses on 01252 335655 or if you wish to speak with Mrs Bascal or Mrs Cutts please contact the school.
