Dragons' Den - October 2018
Our Dragons’ Den event was held on the 30th October. The event was sponsored by Trescal, a worldwide specialist in calibration and asset management services. Trescal have very kindly donated £300 worth of prizes for the winners.
First launched in Japan, Dragons' Den is now an international brand with versions airing in countries across the globe. In the Calthorpe Park version, our young entrepreneurs pitched their business ideas to five formidable Dragons: Andrew Morgan, who has also enjoyed a varied career including a decade in mergers and acquisitions for Siemens; Mrs Suzanne Dulieu, Human Resources Director at Trescal; Mr Matthew Locke Finance Director at Trescal ; and our own Headteacher, Mr Amos.
The students were given strict timings for their pitch; they were then interrogated by all five dragons. They completed this daunting task not only in front of the Dragons, but in a hall packed full of Year 9 Business students!
Prizes were awarded for first, second and third place.
Additionally the best ‘presenters’ were chosen to represent the school in an exciting day out to TAG at Farnborough Airport to attend the ‘Presentation Skills Experience’.
The standard from this year's cohort of Year 10 entrepreneurs was very high. So high, in fact, that the Dragons couldn't decide on a clear winner and awarded joint first and third place:.
Joint 1st place- Alba T & Bethan H; Gemma C
Joint 3rd place- James S & Reuben M; Sean T, Jack W and Luca K
The Presentation Skills Award went to the three best 'presenters, chosen from across all groups: Sean T, Talisha T, Daniel M, who represented the school in an inter-schools presentation skills event at TAG Aviation in Farnborough .
It was a privilege to witness such a strong calibre of competition. The winners will now go forward to represent the school in an inter-school Dragons’ Den event to held at the school in the new year!
