Bake off! - March 2017
The Great Calthorpe Park Comic Relief Bake Off 2017 has taken place - and what a fantastic event it was! We had 13 student teams and 5 staff teams taking part - and they made a lot of yummy cake for tasting!!
As you can see from the photos, it was very clear that all the teams who took part had creative flair and had put a huge amount of hard work into their absolute showstopper cakes! There was a lovely buzz in the air and a lot of icing sugar, too!
Students had from 3 - 5.30pm to make and create their bakes and everyone made it on time; students had planned and handed in designs for their cakes before the event.
We had four judges this year and welcomed back Mrs McGovern, who had the very tough task of tasting all of the cakes and then choosing the top three.
The judging criteria was based on:
Time management (have the bakers used their time efficiently in order to complete a quality final bake?)
Skills used in the making (what level of skill(s) have the bakers used within the time allowed?)
Flavour (is there the right balance of sweet flavours within the bake?)
Decoration and display (how attractive would the cake be to the target audience?)
Creative flair (is there something original about the bake - perhaps something you have never seen before?)
Many teachers came along to support the students and also to have a taste of the cakes. The overall comment was just how proud they were of all the students who took part and what a fantastic effort everyone had made.
Thank you and very well done to everyone who took part!
